Outdoor
Class Description
It’s long been known that if you are going to paint convincingly, you
must work from direct observation. When painting the landscape on
location outdoors, you are painting en plein air. For some,
the overwhelming amount of information encountered in the field can be a
bit intimidating. However, experience and study will help overcome
this and contribute to building stronger more powerful compositions.
These classes will focus on making
order out of nature’s "chaos" by stressing the basics of drawing, value,
design and color, and by learning to see in terms of mass and form
rather than detail and line.
We will begin with a quick
discussion on supplies and equipments, then follow-up with a short
lecture on the fundamentals of painting. The benefits and
drawbacks of photography as a tool, and studio vs field work will also
be discussed. This information will be reinforced later at an
evening slide presentation. The rest of our time will be spent in
the field.
Each participant will be given
personal attention on a daily basis, and we will complement this with
daily demonstrations.
